50-Year-Old Vintage Cinemascope Print of Sholay Will Screen In Mumbai

Sholay fans are in for a once-in-a-lifetime treat by FHF. Yes, you heard it right. The Film Heritage Foundation will host a one-time and only screening of a 50-Year-Old Vintage Cinemascope Print of legendary blockbuster Sholay in Mumbai.

This once-in-a-lifetime screening will take place in Mumbai's iconic Regal Cinema on 31st August 2024 at 5.30 p.m. and will be attended by the legendary writing duo Salim-Javed and the director of the film, Mr. Ramesh Sippy.

FHF announced the new for movie fans on their social media handle, writing: 

"Here's a look at the poster and a few lobby cards of 'Sholay' (1975)!

FHF is excited to announce a one-time-only screening of an almost 50-year-old vintage cinemascope print of the blockbuster Sholay (1975) to celebrate the legendary screenwriter duo Salim-Javed on Saturday, August 31st, at 5.30 p.m. at Regal Cinema, Mumbai!

Don't miss the opportunity to watch the film projected on celluloid on the big screen with Salim-Javed and the director Ramesh Sippy.

FHF would like to thank the copyright holder Shehzad Sippy for giving us permission to screen the print of the film preserved at the FHF archive and SMM Ausaja's archive for the poster of the film.

Screening is free and open to the public. Seating on a first-come, first-served basis."

Ramesh Sippy's Sholay is written by Salim-Javed and stars one of the greatest ensemble casts ever, consisting of legends like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri-Bachchan, and Amjad Khan. The film grossed 15 crore nett and 30 crore gross in 1975 and became the highest grossing Indian film ever at the time, and with adjusted inflation figures and considering footfalls, it is the biggest hit of all time in Indian cinema.
