Gadar 2 Remains Biggest Hit Since Dangal; Tops Stree 2, Jawan, Pathaan

Gadar 2 Biggest hit in post-pandemic era: 

Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 retains its crown of the BIGGEST HIT in the last 8 years. The last Bollywood films to cross 3.50 crore footfalls were: PK (2014) - 3.50 crore footfalls, Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) - 3.54 crore footfalls, and Dangal (2016) - 3.69 crore footfalls. Gadar 2 managed to go close to PK and finished its huge run in cinemas with approx 3.40–3.45 crore footfalls at the Indian Box Office.

Gadar 2 remains the biggest Bollywood hit in terms of footfalls since Aamir Khan's Dangal (2016). The footfalls have seen a huge decrease in the post-Pandemic times, and the ticket rates have gone much higher, which are not affordable to middle-class family members. Post lockdown, Pathaan (2023) emerged as a record grosser, followed by Gadar 2 (2023), and then the record was broken by Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan (2023) very soon. In December 2023, Ranbir Kapoor's Animal surpassed Pathaan's footfalls but fell short of the nett and gross numbers by a small margin (mostly because of the clash). 

Now, a year later, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's horror comedy, Stree 2, has broken the record of Jawan and has also overtaken the number of ticket sales of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. However, Stree 2 couldn't beat the footfalls of Gadar 2, and the margin is comfortably big. Also, Gadar 2's budget is much lower compared to Stree 2, making it a much bigger profitable venture for the makers and, by default, the biggest hit in recent times. The budget for Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel starrer was around Rs. 75 crore, while Stree 2 took about Rs. 110 crore to get things done. The other 3 films, Pathaan, Animal, and Jawan, have much higher budgets than these two—almost double and triple, which makes Gadar 2 and Stree 2 much bigger hits than them.
