The real names of the hijackers of the Kandahar event are Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Mistri Zahoor Ibrahim, and Shakir, as reported by the Union Home Ministry statement on January 6, 2000. However, the Netflix series changed the names of those characters to "Bhola" and "Shankar," making it a religious issue for netizens.

The series is based on the true events that took place in 1999. On the fateful day of December 24, 1999, Indian Airlines Flight IC 814 embarked on its journey from Kathmandu to New Delhi, unaware that a sudden hijack would take them on a seven-day odyssey of terror and intrigue.

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the series features Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Anupam Tripathi, Kumud Mishra, and Manoj Pahwa, amongst others.
