Ae Watan Mere Watan Review - A Great Bravery Tale Of An Unsung Hero Behind The Radio Revolution

Ae Watan Mere Watan Review: Ek Thi Daayan-fame Kannan Iyer takes a 180-degree shift from the horror genre to historical drama with Dharmatic's Ae Watan Mere Watan. Italian physicist Guglielmo Marconi sent the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph message in 1902, but little did he know that the invention of radio would play a big role in India's freedom fight against the British in the 1940s.publive-imageUsha Mehta and her companions thought of this revolutionary idea when the revolution of freedom was crawling down the red line. Ae Watan Mere Watan is a humble tribute to the unsung hero Usha Mehta, who brought revolution through a radio programme and became a "revolution" in herself.publive-imageSara Ali Khan plays the lead role of Usha Mehta in the film, which starts off with her childhood. From watching birds fly in the air in her childhood to rising high as a female freedom fighter in her young days, Ae Watan Mere Watan is a story of Usha's bravery and sacrifices.publive-imageDuring the pre-Independence times of the 1940s, Usha Mehta and her companions plan a radio programme after the rousing campaign of August 1942 Kranti. The British government knows that this radio revolution must be stopped, or else their reign in India will be over soon. While the British were busy with World War II and Churchill was planning a long stay in India, Usha Mehta and Ram Manohar Lohia (played by Emraan Hashmi) took the nation by storm with their radio Kranti. Karo ya Maro transformed into Bharat Roko. How they continued this revolutionary radio programme and how the British failed to stop them from achieving their goals until they were caught at last are all that form the crux of the story.publive-imageThrowing away the curtains of glamour, Sara Ali Khan finally gets into a character-driven role that needs uttermost dedication and transforms remarkably, doing well in the entire process of becoming Usha Mehta.. Watch out for that stampede scene and her last argument with Fahad (Sparsh Srivastava). How good she is in those heartbreaking moments!

There have been reports that Emraan Hashmi has a cameo. Don't believe them. He has a full-fledged role here. Emraan plays the great freedom fighter Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, and he aces it. This guy is a chameleon who can get into the skin of any character. All he needs is a proper chance, and thankfully, Dharmatic gave him two strong roles to play within a month. Laapataa Ladies-fame Sparsh Srivastav proves his worth again. This guy will go way too long in Bollywood.publive-imageSachin Khedekar plays a character that you will hate, but you cannot hate an actor in him. Abhay Verma, Benedict Garrett, Godaan Kumar, Alex O'Neil, and others have done their parts with conviction in well-written supporting roles.publive-imageTalking about the screenplay, Ae Watan Mere Watan is a little slow in the beginning. That's only before we get into the radio thing. At the 40th minute or so, we have the first scene of the radio revolution, and after that, there is no looking back. The dialogues are powerful and real. No filmy flavour or unnecessary aggressiveness. The film falters at a few things, such as cinematography, background score, and detailing. I have never seen the Dahi Handi festival come a week before Diwali, but this film has it that way. Let's blame the screenwriting and close the file.publive-imageThe production design, sets, costumes, and makeup departments are top-class, as Dharmatic Entertainment makes no compromises. Kannan Iyer makes sure that we all feel the pain and struggle of unsung heroes who sacrifice their lives for the nation. As he elaborates, "The unsung hero is sometimes greater than the great known heroes," we all agree. Ae Watan Mere Watan is a cinematic tribute to Usha Mehta's greatness and sacrifices, and it will make every Indian feel proud of her for sure. Let's all say it together: Jai Hind! Vande Mataram!
