Farrey Review - Copy & Cheat Code Cracked Well

Farrey Review: Soumendra Padhi's college-time thriller, Farrey, brings a young cast of Alizeh Agnihotri, Prasanna Bisht, Zeyn Shaw, and Sahil Mehta together. An official adaptation of the Thai film Bad Genius (2017), Farrey begins with the text input "inspired by true events". That actually means true events in Thai, but the film is set in India. The joke is over; let's get back to the movie. Farrey is simply an honest retelling of Bad Genius, even though the original is at fault more than the remake. What's the use of "genius" if it's for "bad" things? That's a basic metaphor from the original film, which is somewhat convincing, but here in India, it goes totally out of the way. It's all on a negative bench. Yet Farrey manages to cheat with this sweet notion and provide a good, one-time thrilling experience for youths and their parents.Farrey ReviewNiyati (Alizeh Agnihotri) is a genius at studying and is living at an orphanage headed by Warden (Ronit Roy) and Renuka (Juhi Babbar). She wants to become an engineer and earn a lot of money. A headmaster at a new college persuades her to go to Oxford University and take a scholarship, which will enable a higher income. Niyati befriends Chavi (Prasanna Bisht), a girl from a rich family who is forced to join Stanford University by her father. She successfully scores high grades with the help of Niyati, and then the chain expands as Prateek (Zeyn Shaw) enters the picture. Aakash (Sahil Mehta) is another school topper who doesn't want to get involved in bad stuff but eventually joins the gang. Together, they set up a big cheating scam, taking the story to an international level. Will they be successful?publive-imageI don't know if it's quoted by someone, but I have heard this line: "The only way a poor person can climb over a rich person is education". Dhanush's Asuran used it very well, if you remember. So, this film is contrary to that fact. Here, you lose many merits. The people in the movie talk about Oxford University so casually as if it were some Jamunadas Majethia college. The cheating codes and tricks are far from our education system, as they covered all the loopholes way back in the late 90s, when the internet started taking over India. Mobiles, smart watches, other electronic devices, and other cheat-passing devices are two decades old. I can tell because I have given school and college exams and then many government competitive exams, and I learned that any kind of cheating is not gonna work, even for an individual, forget a group. Yet Farrey attempts it. The time-zone and answers trick is well over the top since the education system has breached it way back with online exams and miscellaneous sets of questions and answers. So, the reliability is quite low for Farrey. Except for these loopholes in the narrative, Farrey scores good marks in every other subject, be it acting, prediction value, background music, technical aspects, or direction.Farrey Review

Alizeh Agnihotri scores distinction in her first exam in Bollywood's college. Obviously, she had the pressure of being a fresher, but she handled it very well. You expect newcomers to show their talent and earn respect, and Alizeh has done that here. The second girl, Prasanna Bisht, is amazing too. She is fabulous. Prasanna has that urban-girl look and accent, and that's why she seemed flawless. Zeyn Shaw also does well, while Sahil Mehta is too good in emotionally challenging scenes. Ronit Roy explores a new zone with ease. Juhi Babbar and Shilpa Shukla are pretty good in supporting roles.Farrey ReviewComing to the technical team, I'd say the background score tops the list. The music may go unnoticed, but it works in certain situations. That rap and all stuff is too contrary for students' world, but that's okay since we are living in the Instagram reels era. The cinematography could have been better if we had to compare how well Bad Genius captured those tense moments. The same goes for storytelling. The interrogation scene, for instance. Bad Genius begins with it, and you actually believe that they are caught and are telling the story. But here, the same scene looks scattered as they present it very casually, without any seriousness. The main girl there was hardworking, but here she is greedy from the very first scene, which takes it away from sympathy. Nevertheless, Padhi has done a nice job keeping all the new students disciplined throughout the film. It was just a matter of writing; otherwise, Padhi makes sure that you have a thrilling experience and a joyful ride into a cheating world. You may have to forget all the moral things, goodwill stuff, and inspirational features you adore to have fun with this Farrey gang. And it's not harmless or a waste of time, for sure.

Farrey is produced by Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, Sunir Kheterpal, Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and Nikhil Namit. The film will be released in cinemas on November 24, 2023.
