Jhimma 2 Review - Yet Another Feel-Good Entertainer From The Adorable Jhimma Gang

Jhimma 2 Review: Hemant Dhome reunites his adorable Jhimma gang again for Jhimma 2. The woman gang of Suhas Joshi, Nirmiti Sawant, Kshitee Jog, Suchitra Bandekar, and Sayali Sanjeev is joined by two more beautiful faces, Shivani Surve and Rinku Rajguru, while Siddharth Chandekar continues to be the male lead. Jhimma was the first Marathi movie to have a grand release after the pandemic. It did tremendously well at the box office, but more than that, it gave the audience entertainment they had been missing for years. Marathi cinema was short on good comedies and feel-good movies with an emotional touch, and Jhimma stood up for both requirements. While other filmmakers were making storyless crap set in foreign countries, Hemant went on to make a solid entertainer with a heart. When a female filmmaker directs a movie led by men, we talk about it overwhelmingly. Here, a male director made a movie led by females. Let's hail him for that. Let's hail him once more for doing it twice. Dear Hemant sir, you have brought a revolution to Marathi cinema with Jhimma and Jhimma 2 for so many reasons, and I'd like to salute you for that. Jhimma was just known as a fun game all over Maharashtra, but you have given it a different meaning.publive-imageSet over a period of a week or so, the film continues the story of the last film and serves as a reunion for a group. The reason for this trip is to celebrate the 75th birthday of Indu Darling (Suhas Joshi), who promises a big surprise to all of them. Nirmala (Nirmiti Sawant) is accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Taniya (Rinku Rajguru), while Vaishali (Suchitra Bandekar) brings her niece, Manali (Shivani Surve). Taniya is an open book, while Manali is a strained figure who likes to be all by herself, with all her grief. The joyful trip suffers through some personal problems of the passengers, which brings them closer as they explore new bonds of friendship. What's Indu's surprise? How will others take it? Find it out in the movie.publive-imageJhimma 2 doesn't look like a forced sequel from any angle. There are two kinds of sequels: one that tops the predecessor, and the other one brings it down and tries to cash in on the prequel's goodwill. Jhimma 2 falls in the former category. It is more entertaining than the first one. I guess that's enough to excite you to watch this one. It's an out-and-out blockbuster experience at the movies. Like I said, we are short on good comedies. Well, here's your tonic. With that, you get a pill of human drama too. What else can you expect from a moderate-budget movie? It looks so fresh, so lavish, and so gorgeous on the screen. The writing has that genuine humour you haven't seen in years. The characters aren't hysterically funny or silly; they just do their normal things, and that creates a solid comedy. How rarely do we see this stuff happening in Marathi cinema, or, for that matter, anywhere in Indian cinema? Dhome and his team have written a simple and ordinary film that actually feels extraordinary because of the characters and the surroundings. It's pure magic in that sense. You'll have at least two dozen huge gags during the two and a half hours, and then there is some tissue stuff too, depending on how your heart falls for this. I mean, that's too much for one film, and moreover, it's so meaningful.publive-imageJhimma 2 has a power-packed cast. To begin with, Nirmiti ma'am, what a performer! I don't want to degrade other artists, but Nirmiti ma'am, you are some next-level artist. Gangubai made my childhood special, and then, in my professional days, I saw you live on the stage (Marathi Play) to witness your magic. And now, after half a decade, here you are. Proving again what stuff you are. Hats off. Suhas Joshi gets into the skin of the character, and you'll feel how good she is in those close-up shots where her mute expressions showcase everything. Sayali has a blast again, and her cat fights with Suchitra Bandekar are absolute bangers. Kshitee Jog has a character-driven role, and she excels with top grades. This is far too serious and dramatic compared to Jhimma, but she has improvised it like a pro. Siddharth continues with his charm, and this time there is more flirting and teasing. The most beautiful girl in the squad had to play the most depressed character here. Shivani Surve took on the challenge and completed it. Rinku Rajguru finally gets a good role after Sairat, and you are gonna love her for sure. An acting unit like Jhimma, where every character has a different shade, taste, and mindset, can be formed rarely, so please don't miss them.publive-imageJhimma 2 is a beautifully shot film. I don't think all those actresses have looked as gorgeous as they have here because nobody really cared about exploring their beauty in such manners except for photoshoots. The music is beautiful and very situational. The only flaw in Jhimma 2 is a few cliches in the narrative that felt repetitive. Hemant Dhome is a master storyteller, and he proves it again. He had a few misses and goes in the pre-Jhimma era, but he learned from his mistakes and is literally making no mistakes nowadays. Jhimma 2 is a prime example of how to make a sequel. This is a lesson to Marathi filmmakers on how not to destroy a successful and popular movie with a forced sequel. Some Marathi directors have ruined their box office hits with unwanted and crappy sequels in recent times, but Dhome did what should have been done. He makes sure that Jhimma 2 serves better than the predecessor, and people will enjoy it as much as Jhimma, or rather more. Have fun in cinemas near you and have a gala time.
