Odd Couple Review : Odd Love Stories of Odd Couples Made Even With A Modern Goof-Up & Twist

Prashant Johari's modern love story of odd couples, starring Vijay Raaz, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Divyenndu, and Pranati Rai Prakash, introduces us to a brilliant goof-up. The idea behind it is practically possible, but still hard to accept. Two couples getting involved with each other's partners may not be a new idea, but it's definitely something fresh and innovative for today's audience. KJO's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna tried that one and a half decades ago, but delivered it only from one side. What if we had the second couple goof up with each other? That's what the Odd Couple has to offer, but very sensibly.publive-imageThe film is about two couples from different generations whose marriage and divorce processes collide due to their similar names. Does that remind you of Raj Mehta's Good Newwz (2019)? If so, then you are right. Yogesh (Vijay Raaz) wants to marry his ex-wife Nivedita (Suchitra Krishnamoorthi) for some financial set-up, but gets married to Navi (Pranati Rai Prakash) instead. The same goes with Navi's boyfriend, Piyush (Dibyendu), who was going to marry her, but ties the knot with Nivedita instead. The best option to get back to their real partners is divorce, but is that so easy for human beings who are entitled to fall in love with someone after spending some good time? That's exactly what Odd Couple demonstrates.publive-imagePrashant Johari has written a good script with his partner Praneet Verma. The idea is fabulous considering the fact that love has no age bar. However, it could have been explored deeper, if desired. The film misses a chance to create an emotional atmosphere with the characters, which hurts the sentimental appeal of the film. Okay, so two of them had sex, but how? And what were those so-called moments? The screenwriter could have had a closer and more detailed look at scenes like this. Nevertheless, Odd Couple is oddly sensible, and goof-ups are meant to be odd and a little insensible sometimes, so it's okay.publive-imageOdd Couple has Vijay Raaz in the lead role along with Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. There can't be a person in our country who does not admire Vijay Raaz's acting skills. Odd Couple provides him with a vehicle for a full-fledged lead role, and he is excellent. Actually, he plays the most sensible character too. You can see how maturely he behaves in those difficult situations, while others just can't make up their minds about the most important decisions of their lives. Suchitra looks so gorgeous, and she still has so much to give as a performer too. You will just love her presence in every single frame. Divyenndu has managed to do a lot of comedies over the years, but this one is a pretty nice break for him. He has comedic scenes, but his acting skills in challenging scenes are equally good in this film. His love interest, played by Pranati Rai, is a girl who is too modern and westernised. It seems like she is overacting, but somehow you have to pass the time with her because her role was supposed to be so.publive-imageJay Rajesh Arya's music has nothing to offer that stays in memory, but his compositions make for good situational numbers. The song does not bore you as the visuals play an important role in taking the narrative forward during that. The technical aspects of the film are decent because this one is a regular meal; nothing offbeat or challenging. Prashant Johari's debut film is much more entertaining, interesting, and mature than many Bollywood films released this year that were made by experienced filmmakers. Odd Couple is indeed an odd film to make and to convince people to believe in today's world, but Prashant rose to the occasion and exceeded expectations with his directing abilities. What you see in Odd Couple is totally odd, but he is the one who has turned it into something even normal moviegoers can enjoy. The film makes a good attempt at progressive romance with the least vulgarity and abuse that we miss nowadays, so make sure you catch it soon.
