Rosh Review - A One-Room Thriller That Should Relate To Middle-Class People

Jayveer Panghaal's one-room thriller, Rosh, stars Nikita Soni, Alina Rai, Mimoh Chakraborty, and Yash Raj (YR) in the lead roles. There is a special requirement for a one-room that every filmmaker needs to understand. Hollywood has done that way back in the 40s and 50s with classics like Rope and 12 Angry Men. Of course, these were too great films to be matched, but then there was a hope that someone would match half of them, which would be equal to what we call a good film. The idea is simple: you get all your main characters under one roof, have one person come from the outdoors, and get him involved with the other characters in a surprising manner. Rosh does it somewhat right, and that's enough to keep you hooked for two hours.publive-imageThe story of Rosh is a tale of a clash where it becomes difficult to differentiate between the hero and the villain, between good and evil. On their way back from a party, Ronika (Nikita Soni), Alina (Alina Rai), and Rajat (Mimoh Chakraborty) get involved in an accident and run away. A delivery boy, Ganesh (Yash Raj), knocks on their door to deliver a cake and somehow manages to enter the house. His short visit becomes a long one as he unfolds several secrets that leave Ronika, Alina, and Rajat in shock. As events unfold, the story becomes even more mysterious, and the line between right and wrong becomes blurred for both the protagonist and the antagonist. Who is right, who's wrong, and who will win the battle at the end?publive-imageRosh is a decent script, but it's quite repetitive. We have seen all these tantrums and twists in many films, but Rosh gets human connect right. It's a subject that is likely to strike chords with middle- and lower-class people, as well as those who have been cheated. That band fraud and OTP stuff is so well known that you can't bear seeing it once again in this film, but I don't know how Rosh managed to make it look good and thrilling despite so many cliches. That's one of the major positives about the film, while the rest of the narrative doesn't really offer anything new. As a whole, it's a storyline that we all know, but still, it's watchable for some unknown reasons.publive-imageTalking about performances, Yash Raj is the real star here. He enters the picture late but still overshadows everyone in the film. First he is that naive-looking guy, then he is a common middle-class man, and then he goes violent like a typical hero, but in a good sense. YR indeed puts life into this film with his performance. The ladies here are sexually attractive and damn beautiful. Nikita Soni and Alina Rai look sexy and hot, as their roles demand, but the acting is below par. Mimoh Chakraborty has a few scenes working in his favour, but other times he is not that good either. It's been nice to see Vrajesh Hirjee in a funny role after a while, but why didn't he get enough screen space? This role could have been extended to his full potential. Sadly, it's held up to a subpar level. The supporting cast of Govind Panday, Allu Ashish Soni, Jill Kilroy, and Ruchi Tiwari is somewhat decent.publive-imageRosh has one song in the beginning that will bore you with its bad lyrics and music. The visuals for the same are sexy, though. However, there are no more songs later, and so the film holds its grip well. Like I said, the core of its story will strike chords with middle class people, as the film really stands out as a revenge thriller. Less thrill, I would say, but the revenge is worthy and meaningful. The screenplay is a bit slow in the middle and in the conclusion. Jayveer Panghaal's direction is passable. He could have done a lot better with highly functional theories and smart storytelling. Though he stays put, he channels outdated theories and ideas that aren't going to please clever audiences. Nevertheless, Rosh will connect with the masses instead, who have been robbed and cheated. The film will satisfy their unspoken anger and outbursts, for sure.
