Vash Review - An Old-School Horror With A Modern Supernatural Touch

Ganga Mamgai And Jagmeet Singh Samundri brings a new horror tale to Bollywood with Vash, starring Vivek Jaitly and Ganga in the lead roles. What we learned from old-school horror movies can be found here in the same pattern, but what Vash does is add a few modern theories to it. We have been seeing horror movies in Bollywood since the late 40s, but the real evolution for the masses came in the 80s. Ramsay Bros. made horror movies with a low budget, but they were smart enough to sell their project with female sex appeal, horrible faces, and God's references. Vash is somewhat on the same lines, with the only difference that it uses all the modern surroundings to tell its story.publive-imageThe film begins with a couple going on a trip to a remote Hill station in Himachal Pradesh but getting stuck in a forest. A steaming hot scene between them entertains you, and then suddenly the horror strikes. After the introduction to the world of Vash, we have our leading pair, Rakshit (Vivek Jaitly) and Aanchal (Ganga Mamgai), who get married in Himachal Pradesh, around the same place where all these murders are taking place. Soon, horrifying incidents in Aanchal's life start unfolding, directly out of a book she was reading (given by a journalist cum author friend). What was the reason for this unsolvable incident? Will the true love of Rakshit and Aanchal win, or will they be crushed by the wicked intentions of the unknown? What will Rakshit do now? Will he turn to normal cures, which have proven ineffective, or will he turn to the Supernatural? What has Aanchal's past got to do with it? Find all the answers in the movie.publive-imageWritten by Jagmeet Singh Samundri, Vash is exactly what your old-school horror story is, and the screenplay is somewhat outdated. The film is about 105 minutes long, but the last half hour is very interesting, making you forget all those outdated theories. There is enough masala for the masses, right from Ramsay's books on filmmaking. We have a couple of intimate scenes, some smooching, and a super hot bikini scene in a bath tub, but no overly sultry bed scenes. As a whole, it's a basic script with some modernity, and the conclusion is thrilling enough to make the horror tale complete with a proper background story and connections like reincarnation, revenge, lust, and love.publive-imageThe leading lady, Ganga Mamgai, looks gorgeous in the role of Anchal. First, she is a normal girl who would love the man of her life. Later, she gets into variety as the ghost material gives her character new shading. The bikini scene in the bath tub sees her in a super sexy avatar, and she looks super hot there. Vivek Jaitly, as Rakshit, is a normal husband who would not believe in supernatural stuff but later saw it and fought against it. The climax scene has a lot for him. Just last week I saw Rituraj Singh nail the role in The Trial, and now again he does it with Vash in the role of Shashtri, the saviour. His addition certainly makes things look better than they were before. Kaveri Priyam's look for a journalist's role is noticeable. I mean, those specs and all, and most importantly, no skin shows for her. Preeti Kochar, Vishal Sudarshanwar, and the rest of the supporting cast are okay.publive-imageVash has music by Mukhtar Sahota, but there is hardly anything to be noticed. The video songs have some stimulating visuals filled with the romantic chemistry of the leading players. Manoj Shaw's cinematography is decent in some scenes, but otherwise below par. Jagmeet Singh Samundri also happens to be the editor of the film, and he never makes the film look boring. Being the director and writer might have been the right thing to do, but that's what works in the film's favour. Vash has a few issues, such as a low-budget production design, poor colour grading, and an outdated storyline, but Jagmeet makes sure that you revisit the Ramsay era of horror, romance, love, lust, and drama. Overall, a decent watch for horror lovers.
