Yodha Review: Sidharth Malhotra and Dharma Productions are back after the blockbuster success of Shershaah. Also, Siddharth Malhotra is back in the action avatar again to rule our hearts. Dharma Productions' latest flick, Yodha, is promoted as an aerial action thriller, but don't let those promos deceive you. Yodha is filled with unpredictable twists that will surprise you, and there are not just one or two, but plenty of them. Besides, Yodha has breath-taking action, eye-catching stunts, and heroic moments inclined towards patriotism. In short, it's another blockbuster treat from team Shershaah, with never-seen-before mid-air action sequences.Arun Katiyal (Sidharth Malhotra) is a brave officer of the Yodha Task Force, invented by his father. His wife, Priyamvada Katyal (Raashii Khanna), is an administrative secretary and is unhappy with Arun's never-ending adventures. With Arun being an on-flight commander, one of the Air-Hindustan flights is hijacked, and the terrorists are after India's best nuclear scientist. Arun loses the flight, and the nation loses the scientist and many other lives in that hijack. As a result, the Yodha task force is shut down, and Arun is left shattered. He fights the system and his wife, leading to differences between them. Years later, he is on board as a flight commander again, and this time the task is more difficult. Will he be able to erase memories of the previous failure when surroundings and the system are against him yet again?Sidharth Malhotra shines in the role of Yodha, aka Arun. His action avatar is really wonderful, and he certainly looks like one of the best action stars of the young generation with his charismatic personality. Raashii Khanna, as his wife, has done a pretty good job, and she looks fabulous in those romantic numbers. Their chemistry is really something. One just can't take the eyes off the screen when these two are involved in a romantic scene. Coming to the surprise package, Disha Patani, hold your breath, guys. So, they didn't show much of Disha Patani in the promos because they wanted it to be kept secret. Well, get ready to be blown away by her. How and why—we can't spoil that here. Sunny Hinduja is another surprise package, while Tanuj Virwani walks side by side with a role of minimal importance. The supporting cast was just okayish.Sagar Ambre has not just written a good action drama but a solid thriller. Yodha is loaded with so many twists and turns that you might get confused a little with its deceptive power. The interval block leaves you stunned, like, "What's happening, guys?" Then, the second half again drives you crazy with its suspense. At last, you reach the climax, which is packed with high-octane action and dhaasu dialogues. "Iss kahani ka hero mein hu," "Mein rahu ya na rahi, Desh jarur rahega," "compromise karna toh kabhi Yodha ka style tha hi nahi," "Na tumhe Kashmir milega, na uski Tasveer"—dialogues like these are entitled to get clap-worthy receptions from masses and classes.Yodha is a powerful patriotic film with enough jingoism within cinematic liberty. Unlike Shershaah, it is a fictional film, but far tougher because the level of action is much higher here. The music also works big time here. Zindagi Tere Naam is the most romantic song of the season, whereas Tirangaa is your patriotic number for a lifetime. Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha's direction skills look promising in this debut film. The duo has designed a different kind of aerial action drama from the ones we have seen recently in Bollywood, especially when we talk about an intriguing "thriller." Yodha is a perfect fit. Overall, Yodha has action, drama, romance, thrills, suspense, patriotism, and heart-pumping aerial stuff—that's more than what you get from two or three films. In short, an action-packed, patriotic blockbuster.
