Made on a budget of 24 crore, Lagaan collected 34 crore nett in India and emerged as a box office hit against the cyclone called "Gadar". Lagaan was the only third Indian film to be selected in the Oscars' Best Picture in a Foreign Language category. The AKP production went on to win 8 National Awards, 9 Filmfare Awards, 9 Star Screen Awards, 10 IIFA Awards, and 12 other foreign awards.
