publive-imageEvery news bulb is switched on nowadays due to Will Smith and Chris Rock's slap controversy from the Oscars 2022 events. After releasing a public apology and resigning from academy membership, Hollywood actor Will Smith has been banned from attending the Oscars awards event for the next 10 years.

The Academy made it official today by releasing an official statement. "Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith's actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation. The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards," president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in the statement. The decision was made final by the members during a board of governors meeting held on Friday, 8th April 2022. One of the major highlights of the statement was that "the celebration moments of Oscars were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage."

A week ago, Will Smith publicly declared an apology for his behaviour. "My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I am heartbroken. Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake a reason," stated Will Smith.
