publive-imageAnne Hathaway has been slammed by critics for her fake Yorkshire accent in One day.

The film is an adaptation of David Nicholls, award winning novel of the same name.

Anne essays the role of Emma Morely, an idealistic English girl. The story revolves around Emma's romance with Dexter Mayhew.

Her accent has been described, from being 'dodgy' to 'awful.'

However, Anne defended her accent in the film by saying that nine out of ten people from Yorkshire didn't sound like they are from, Yorkshire anymore.

"Emma is from Leeds but has been at university, and then goes to London, so the accent is designed to change the way it does when you leave home, particularly in the U.K" she told Britain's magazine, Grazia.
