Blue Beetle Dethrones Barbie's 4-Week Reign, But Initially The Worst DC Opening —

Blue Beetle Box Office Update: DC's latest superhero flick, Blue Beetle, has finally dethroned Barbie from the top spot. Warner Bros' fantasy comedy was the top film for four consecutive weeks, and it took a new DC superhero film to outgross the pink doll at the ticket windows.

Blue Beetle earned $25.4 million in the opening weekend, leaving Barbie's $21.5 million behind. Practically, Blue Beetle has underperformed since it is in the opening weekend, whereas Barbie is in the fifth week and has already scored a large chunk of its huge total.

Blue Beetle's initial weekend is technically the worst opening for a DC superhero. The previous lowest-opening weekend for DC was Wonder Woman 1984 ($16.7 million), which had a restricted release during the pandemic and also a home digital release on HBO. DC's Latin superhero had a proper theatrical release and favourable reviews too, yet it couldn't score a respectable total. It has a tough road ahead if we have to consider recoveries for the budget of $100 million.
