Christoph Waltz, the German - Austrian actor is all set to direct himself in the film The Worst Marriage in Georgetown.
The film is based on a true crime story about the murder of Washington socialite Viola Drath, who was killed in her Georgetown rowhouse by her much younger husband, Albrecht Muth, in 2011. The character of Muth will be essayed by Waltz.
Christoph Waltz had won his first Oscar in 2010 for Inglorious Bastards, and his second for 2013's Django Unchained.
Reportedly, Voltage Pictures have come aboard to fully finance and produce the film, and will be introducing to the buyers at Cannes.
The movie will be centred on Muth who in 2014 was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 50 years in prison for brutally beating and strangling his 91-year-old wife. News reports consistently describe Muth as a social opportunist and something of a con man. Reportedly, he'd assume the role of a U.S. Army officer, a German spy and even an Iraqi general. The cinematic version of his and Drath's tragic marriage may just have a whiff of "The Talented Mr. Ripley."
Adapted from a 2012 New York Times magazine article, The Worst Marriage in Georgetown, production of the movie is slated to commence in October.
Waltz seems to have really carved out a niche for himself as the go-to guy for roles that involve people lying about their backgrounds. It will be interesting to see how Waltz's directorial début turns out.
