publive-imageFilmmaker Christopher Nolan has commenced filming of his upcoming ''epic action-thriller'' Dunkirk. Nolan is tackling a new genre (a war film) for the first time with the movie.

The first official, brief synopsis of the movie by Warner Bros stated, '''Dunkirk' opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.''

The film stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy. The ensemble cast also includes Aneurin Barnard, Harry Styles, James D'Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan and Tom Glynn-Carney. One actor noticeably absent from the cast list is Michael Caine, who has been in every Nolan movie since Batman Begins.

Contrary to Nolan's films till now, which are loaded with twists and mind-bending gimmicks, this film seems to be a straightforward adaptation of the historical event. Dunkirk is slated to release on July 21, 2017.
