Raksha Bandhan, starring Akshay Kumar, is based on the dowry system and will be breaking silence through cinematic lenses. In an exclusive interaction with us, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth, and Deepika Khanna, who play Akshay's sisters in the film, have shared their views on the dowry system. Read their comments below:Sadia Khateeb says:
"Dowry shouldn't be given, nor be taken, that's all. There is no second thought about it. If we are paying money to marry someone, then it's a ridiculous idea. I haven't heard anything ridiculous like this, at least from the city and culture I came from."Sahejmeen Kaur says:
"It's disheartening that this process of dowry exists in the name of gifts. But of course, it should be stopped."Smrithi Srikanth says :
"Yes, I agree. It should be stopped by the name of the gift. I mean, other gifts are okay, even money if you want to give it yourself. But having an obligation that you have to give dowry, I mean, you are giving them an asset like your daughter, and that in itself is a big thing. Why should you give something else?"Deepika Khanna says:
"Yes, I agree with what Smrithi just said. There shouldn't be anything obligatory."
