Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt is making her production debut with Netflix's upcoming black comedy, Darlings. The makers have dropped a quirky trailer today, which promises a power-packed entertainer. Alia Bhatt, who also stars in the lead in Darlings, has shared some interesting details about the film during a recent media conversation.Talking about why she decided to release the film on OTT instead of theatres, Alia revealed, "It kind of naturally happened. Darlings is a kind of film that perfectly fits on an OTT platform. Theatres have a certain larger than life scale and appeal, which Darlings is a larger than life cinema, but it's an intimate watch. So the idea of putting it on Netflix is that you don't have to step out of the house. Cinema can come to you."About Darlings streaming on Netflix, she added, "We decided to make this film in the pre-pandemic era, but in the pandemic era,we all realise that certain films fit perfectly on OTT. With Netflix, we will reach a wider audience across 240 countries."Darlings is her debut as a producer, and she is very proud of what she has made. She shared, "I am very proud of the film. And eventually, it's all that matters. At the end of the day, you have to put out a good product to the audience. I won't say much, but I think Darlings is a film which I hope people will love and enjoy."Opening up about the difficulties she had to face during the shoot, Alia Bhatt said, "No. There was no headache. It was like a break-a-leg that happened to all of us. We were supposed to start the film in April 2021, but then the COVID-19 2nd wave happened. Jasmeet got COVID, then I got COVID. The set was ready, and suddenly, tuck. Everything was put on hold. Suddenly, all those things like rentals and all started running in my mind.""We were going through a more important issue like the public's health safety, so we had to implement many protocols on the sets. We kept the entire crew in a bubble. We did daily tests and all. That was a major crisis for me. Eventually, everything works out and you have to deal with it," she concluded.
Darlings is produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt and Gaurav Verma, under the banners Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions. Director Jasmeet K Reen makes her debut the film starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew in lead roles. The film will be exclusively streaming on Netflix from August 5, 2022.
