Indian actress Sarika Ji will next be seen in Sooraj Barjatya's drama, Uunchai. The actress will be sharing a screen with Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, and Parineeti Chopra in the film. Before the film hits the screens on November 11th, here's our exclusive interview with Sarika.
Talking about how she looks at Uunchai, Sarika ji says, "Uunchai is about relationships, and there are many different relationships in the film. It's about friendship and to what extent you will go for your loved ones. That is the main thing, and as always, like every Sooraj Barjatya film, it's about goodness; it's about being sensitive to people; it's about emotions."Speaking of her character in the film, Sarika expressed, "My character name is Mala Trivedi. It's an individual character, kind of an outsider, because the other characters are somehow related to each other, so my character is an outsider in that sense. She comes at a point and then joins them on this journey."
The Sooraj Barjatya cinema is changing with the times, and Sarika ji feels it isn't exactly like that. "Modern storytelling cannot take away credit for a good film. Of course, you can't make those old-pattern films nowadays, because the audience and filmmaking change with time, and Uunchai is a different film for Sooraj Barjatya. I really liked that he went away from his comfort zone, which is such a big thing for a director like him. Despite being different from the previous Sooraj Ji's project, it is still the Sooraj Barjatya film," she explained. There have always been debates about content driven cinema and commercial cinema. Sarika, who has been part of both kinds of cinema, doesn't believe in any such debate. She shared, "I don't believe in differentiating cinema. There is no artistic cinema or commercial cinema, until and unless you are providing entertainment. Doing a film like Parzania doesn't make it different, because, at the end, your film has to be good. You have to have a good role. I loved Dabangg. I saw it twice. I also loved RRR, which is a big screen cinema. We should keep ourselves open to both kinds of cinema."People have been talking about Uunchai as a film for seniors, but it isn't that. Like Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta, Sarika also believes the same. She clarified, "There is something beautiful in this film that the director wants to tell you. Most of the people are talking about age, but let me tell you, age is used just as a prop in the film. Because we needed an obstacle to carry the story forward. Those three friends you see in the film can relate to any age group. We shouldn't tag it as a typical audience's film; it's a completely content-driven film."
