Ram Gopal Varma's next, Ladki, is an Indo-Chinese production introducing a martial artist turned actress, Pooja Bhalekar, who specialises in the art of Jeet Kune Do, the fighting art founded by Bruce Lee. Originally an expert in Taekwondo, having taken part in multiple tournaments, Pooja extensively trained herself in Jeet Kune for her role in the film.In the latest promo of Ladki, Pooja Bhalekar is seen wearing a black bikini. This reminds us of Urmila Matondkar's famous scene from Rangeela (1995). Debutant Pooja Bhalekar has been receiving messages regarding the comparison between her scene and Urmila's scene. In a recent interview with us, she opened up about this comparison.
Pooja Bhalekar told us, "Rangeela is one of my favourite films by RGV. I must have seen that film 10 times and loved it. It feels unbelievable to know that people are comparing me with Urmila Ma'm. I mean, she is so pretty in that scene, and I tried the best I could do. But I can never become Urmila Matondkar."Talking about how Urmila's persona helped her and how it was working with RGV, she shared, "Yes, a little bit. I have seen the film and that scene so many times, so it did influence me, but Ladki is a different film. It's like Rangeela mixed with Enter the Dragon. Urmila and Bruce are my favorites, but I can never match their level. I feel blessed to be making a debut with RGV Sir, being directed by him, and I hope people will love what we have created."
Ladki is produced by Artsee Media, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and features Pooja Bhalekar, Parth Suri, Rajpal Yadav and Abhimanyu Singh. The film will be released worldwide on July 15, 2022, including in China on more than 40, 000 screens.
