Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's Gadar 2 has become the eighth Bollywood movie to cross the 300 crore nett mark. The 300 crore was opened by Aamir Khan's PK in 2014, which outgrossed Aamir's own "Dhoom 3" (260 crore nett). The second entry in the club was made by Salman Khan with Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). Next year, Salman again entered the 300 club with Sultan (2016) to become the first Bollywood actor to have two 300 crore films. Salman had one more 300 crore grosser with Tiger Zinda Hai to become the first and only superstar with three films in this prestigious club.
Aamir Khan' again smashed all records with his next release, Dangal, and opened the 350 crore club for Bollywood. The film remained unbeaten for more than six years until Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan outscored it this year in January. Pathaan became the first Bollywood film to cross 400 crore nett and 500 crore nett. Now, Gadar 2 will be the second Bollywood film in the 400 crore club, while 500 crore looks difficult but not impossible.
Back then, Bollywood films had to sell at least 3 crore tickets to enter the coveted 300 crore club, as the ATP was in the range of 125-135 Rs. Now, the ATP has gone beyond Rs. 200, which makes 300 crore easier. Gadar 2 crossed 300 crore nett with approx 1.75-1.80 crore footfalls (estimates). The question is, will Gadar 2 enter the 500 crore club and surpass Pathaan? Time will tell.
