Gladiator 2 Another FLOP for Viacom and Paramount:

Ridley Scott's long-delayed sequel, Gladiator 2, opened in Indian cinemas on Friday, November 15, 2024, and has seen a disastrous response at the ticket windows, despite high ticket and premium format release. This is another disaster opening for Viacom & Paramount Pictures in India, a studio that has been struggling for a HIT movie for a long time.

Gladiator 2 collected approx. 1.70-1.75 crore nett at the Indian box office, which is a low start considering that there was no major competition on the said Friday. Previously, another sequel distributed by Viacom and Paramount, A Quiet Place: Day One, had opened to similar low response in July this year. That film had even worse numbers to follow. A Quiet Place: Day One collected Rs. 45 lacs on Day one and Rs. 1.80 crore nett on the weekend. Gladiator Part 2 is much better, but still a flop in itself.

Gladiator 2 has now joined the long disaster club of Viacom and Paramount, which includes back-to-back box office failures like IF (2024), Bob Marley (2024), Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie (2023), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023), Transformers 7 (2023), Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves (2023), Scream VI (2023), Sonic 2 (2022), The Lost City (2022), Scream (2022), and a below-average grosser, Top Gun: Maverick (2022). The struggle for Hit is real here, which isn't the case per agar Hollywood studios like Marvel Studios, Sony Pictures, and Disney that have better unions and a wider reach in the Indian market. Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox continue to struggle for back-to-back hits.
