Sequels and franchises have great commercial values in the Bollywood industry. This year, we have had only three blockbuster films, and two of them are sequels/parts of a franchise. Except for The Kashmir Files, the other two blockbusters are Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2.
The trend of hit sequels started in 2006, when Bollywood saw four super-hit sequels in one year. Lage Raho Munnabhai, Phir Hera Pheri, Dhoom 2, and Krrish released in 2006 and became box office hits. The trend has continued to this date, with most of the sequels ending successfully except for a few failures.
Below are the Top 5 highest grossing sequels in Bollywood:
Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) - 339 crore
Dhoom 3 (2013) - 272 crore
Housefull 4 (2019) - 205.60 crore
