patriot-1How often do we feel a sense of pride when we hear our respected national anthem and see the military parade at the national capital. Patriotism is a feeling which is naturally ingrained in all of us and we marvel in the moments when a tribute is paid to our motherland. Many Bollywood films have also strived to showcase and fan the national pride within us. We bring to you a list of some of the iconic patriotic moments from the movies which will make your chest swell with pride and have you say 'I love my India'.patriot-21) Roja (1992)

This Mani Ratnam film had one of the most unforgettable sequences in which the National flag is set on fire and the protagonist (essayed by Arvind Swamy) tries to douse it by rolling over it, almost setting himself ablaze in the process. Goosebumps galore!patriot-32) Lagaan (2001)

Directed by maverick filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar, Lagaan told the story of the drought-stricken villagers of Champaner trying to fight the oppressive tax regime of the Britishers through a game of cricket. If they won, the village wouldn’t have to pay taxes (the grains from their harvest) for three years. The entire film hinges on the fate of the cricket match. Towards the climax when Bhuvan (Aamir Khan) hits a six on the last ball to win the game for the villagers one can’t help but marvel at how a movie created the tension of a Cricket World Cup so effortlessly. It was like the victory of David against Goliath!patriot-43) Lakshya (2004)

In the climax when Hrithik Roshan finally hoists the Tri-Colour on the mountain. The feeling of patriotism one gets when one sees that flag is unbeatable. Amitabh Bachchan’s reaction is priceless. Poora paisa vasool!patriot-54) Rang De Basanti (2006)

One of the most iconic films of Gen-X. This gem of a film had it's heart in the right place. It told the story of a Flt. Lt. Ajay Rathod (R Madhavan) who is killed after his fighter jet crashes mid-air and the government decides to blame the incident on Rathod to cover-up for its own goof-up. In protest, his group of friends organise a candle light march at India Gate. A. R. Rahman's background score of Khoon Chala in the scene gives you gooseflesh years after the film's release. This also proves to be a turning point in the film where a bunch of Delhi slackers turn into revolutionaries of sorts.patriot-75) Chak De (2007)

Can anyone ever forget the SRK dialogue of 'Sattar Minute' towards the climax? As coach Kabir Khan before the finals of the women's Hockey World Championship, the audience hangs on to every word he says, especially the lines – “toh jao, jao aur apne aap se, iss zindagi se, apne khuda se, aur har uss insaan se jisne tumhe tum par bharosa nahi kiya, apne sattar minute chheen lo.” The subsequent match and the victory of the Indian girl hockey team had the audiences clapping. Truly a Chak De moment!patriot-86) Namastey London (2007)

The scene where Akshay Kumar goes super patriotic and scores a giant win for India against a bunch of pretentious Firangs in a rugby match. Awe-inspiring!patriot-97) Dangal (2016)

Based on the inspiring story of world wrestling champion Geeta Phogat, who won the Gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. So even before entering the theatre, one knew how the final match of the film is going to end. But director Nitesh Tiwari took the cinematic liberty of creating a twist where Mahavir Phogat (Aamir Khan) misses his daughter's match because he's been locked in a room. He only learns of her victory when he hears the National Anthem being played. What a marvelous impact this scene had! Truly stirs the patriotic fervour!
