INTERVIEW : "Our Writing Team Worked Hard To Get Things Right," - Rajkummar Rao On 'Monica O My Darling'

Rajkummar Rao will next be seen in Netflix India's Monica O My Darling, which is set to premiere on the platform on November 11th, 2022. The trailer for the film was launched at a grand event yesterday in Mumbai. Soon after the trailer launch, the lead actor, Rajkummar Rao, spoke to the media and shared many details about the film and his characters.Revealing why he signed the dotted line, Rajkummar Rao shared, "I wanted to work with Vasan for a long time, and everything just fell in place. A good team came together to make the best. If it wasn't for Vasan, I doubt if I would have done it. This is a dark comedy and very different from the projects I have done".He went on to reveal further details about the writing process and his character preparations, saying, "There was a lot of content in the novel, so our writing team worked hard to get the script right. It took them years. We got so much content from the script alone. I play an engineer who works in robotics, and we had some people on set with good knowledge of that field, so it helped."Since the rise of OTT in last 2-3 years, many stars are preferring OTT projects. Did that reflect Rajkummar's choices? He told Movie Talkies, "Not because of rise of the ott space. But because of the pandemic. The lockdown gave all of us time to reaching revaluate things about life, so I also got a lot of time to do some re-thinking. A lot of people told me, and even Patralekhaa told me that I miss that old Raj, who did films like Shahid, Trapped and Newton. But I tell you, I love what I do, all these years. I really want to pick those films that interest audience to bring them to cinemas or watch on OTTs."Directed by Vasan Bala, produced by Matchbox Shots, Monica, O My Darling will star an incredible ensemble cast including Rajkummar Rao, Huma S Qureshi, Radhika Apte, Sikandar Kher, Bagavathi Perumal, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Sukant Goel and Zayn Marie Khan.
