Kalki 2898 AD has done well at the Indian as well as overseas box office, but the official numbers given by production house are way ahead of trade figures by BOI.
Kalki 2898 AD has done well in Hindi markets, emerging as a super hit, and Andhra has done well too.
It usually happens with most of the films, but the difference is always bigger in South movies. Prabhas, who is currently the number 1 pan-India superstar, has had almost every big movie fall into the same category, as the production houses went all out with their figures.
Adipurush and Salaar are recent examples, whereas Bahubali's trade and production figures are in close range. With Kalki 2898 AD, the difference is over 100 crore gross, and it's certainly bigger than what it usually is for other movies.
It's not just Prabhas movies, but there are several other pan-India movies that have given higher numbers during the weekend and opening week, which eventually affect the gap in the lifetime numbers.
Kalki makers have already gone up with 1000 crore+ gross posters last week, but the trade figure is still somewhere around 900 crore. Since the South Box Office doesn't have any authentic trackers, it's an easy choice to believe in BOI since they are tracking numbers for Pan-India movies, if not regional South movies. It's up to your own choice which numbers you'd like to believe, but don't shift sides according to opportunities.
