Rishab Shetty's Kannada blockbuster, Kantara, has become a pan-India sensation. The film justified the hype by collecting huge numbers in Hindi markets, and audiences and critics here are raving about it. The creative director of Tumbbad, Anand Gandhi, has a slightly different opinion, though.
Anand Gandhi shared, "Kantara is nothing like Tumbbad. My idea behind Tumbbad was to use the horror as an allegory of toxic masculinity and parochialism. Kantara is a celebration of these."
Bollywood filmmaker Vasan Bala, whose last film Monica O My Darling was released on Netflix, replied to Anand, saying, "Tumbbad was Rahi's idea...that apart haan point taken." Another prominent director, Anurag Kashyap, agreed to Vasan's statement and shared it on his Instagram story.
