Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the new film in the Planet of the Apes series, has taken a good start at the global box office. The film was projected to collect $55 million at the domestic box office, and the actuals have edged past that number.
The Kingdom flick rose to a fine debut at the worldwide box office, earning $129 million in the first 3 days. This includes $11 million plus gross from the China market, which is trying to recover things for Hollywood releases.The film scored a good opening weekend in North America with a $56.7 million haul. This is the second biggest start for any film in this series behind only Dawn of the Planet of theApes (2014), which collected $72 million.
