Kerala's iconic festival Thrisshur Pooram is just around the corner and actress turned PETA activist Pamela Anderson has written to the CM of Kerala asking him to not use elephants for the festival.

In her letter Pamela has written that it is illegal to keep animal under captivity and they should not be forced for participating in parades. Pamela has mentioned that many times elephants are separated from their mothers at infancy stage and then brought to Kerala for such festivals. She added that the elephants are raised in deplorable conditions and instead replicas or papier-mache elephants should be used.

Pamela's email to Mr Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala came in the wake of an Animal Welfare Board of India's (AWBI) advisory telling Kerala officials to exclude elephants out of the upcoming Thrissur Pooram festival parade as it is illegal to have animal performances, without registering with AWBI first.
