Raj Babbar Sentenced To 2 Years Prison For Obstructing Government Work

publive-imageThe veteran Bollywood actor and former Rajya Sabha MP, Mr. Raj Babbar gets a two-year jail sentence by the special court. The case was filed 26 years ago in 1996 for violating the code of conduct during the Lok Sabha election. Today, the special court in Lucknow passed the judgement and sentenced him to 2 years in prison.

Raj Babbar was accused of obstruction in government work and physical assault. The complaint was filed by a polling officer, Mr. Krishna Singh Rana, in 1996. Babbar was contesting elections in Lucknow for the Samajwadi Party. The actor has been found guilty and got 2 years in jail along with a fine of Rs. 8500.

Raj Babbar had a career in Hindi and Punjabi cinema as an actor and has worked in more than 100 films. As a politician, he belongs to the Indian National Congress party. He is a three-time member of the Lok Sabha and a two-time member of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. He also served as the President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.
