Shah Rukh Khan's Fan (2016) was released without the Jabra Fan song, which was shot as a promotional song. The song wasn't added to the final cut of the film, and one of the fans (moviegoers) was not pleased with this decision. He filed a case on YRF demanding Rs. 10,000 as compensation under the Consumer Act and called it an "act of fooling."
The legal battle has been fought for 8 years and has finally reached its verdict. The Supreme Court of India gave the verdict in favour of YRF, overturning the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) rulings.
The SC also added that adding or removing a song or any other material in the film is entirely the producer's decision.
The complaint was filed by Afreen Fatima Zaidi, who said that the deletion of Jabra Fan left her and her children disappointed. Zaidi's exaggerated claims included that this has even caused health concerns for her children. Initially, the NCDRC supported Zaidi, but YRF claimed that the allegations were highly exaggerated and manipulative.
