Shahid Kapoor's Ashwatthama SHELVED
Shahid Kapoor was set to enter a new zone of an ancient warrior in a modern world with Ashwatthama, produced by Pooja Entertainment. The grand announcement took place at Prime Video's annual event in March 2024. It's been 7 months since the announcement, and the film hasn't begun, making many industry sources believe that the project is sleeved.
Directed by Sachin Ravi, the magnum opus Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues was to be made in 5 languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. However, it seems that the project is shelved now. Pooja Films hasn't had enough luck with their last releases, and this project needs a huge money backup to go on floors since the production and VFX are going to cost a hefty amount. As per industry rumors, for now, the makers have decided to stop it as it is and not go ahead. The official word from the producers is awaited on these strong rumors.
At the announcement event, the makers revealed the film delves into the Legend of the Immortal Warrior Ashwatthama from the Mahabharata, believed to walk among us even today. Set in the present era marked by rapid technological advancements and humanity's remarkable capabilities, Ashwatthama confronts the challenges of modernity, facing off against formidable adversaries in a high-octane, action-packed narrative. As the mystery of a legendary figure thrust into the chaos of the present day unravels, the film explores the inner psyche of an immortal being, revealing how he perceives the world he has witnessed for thousands of years.
At the time of the announcement, Producer Jackky Bhagnani had said, "Every project we undertake is not just about entertainment; it's about creating an experience that resonates deeply with audiences, leaving a lasting impact on their hearts and minds. After Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, I wanted to do an unexpected film, and that's when this came our way. It is a modern-day spin on a story we all know, and the interpretation of the legend has been a joy to achieve."
