Dinesh Vijan's horror universe did look exciting in the beginning, when Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor's Stree became a superhit. The film crossed the 100 crore nett mark in India, and the idea of a horror universe started evolving in Vijan's mind. However, the next two films, Roohi and Bhediya, haven't really managed to live up to the mark.
Amar Kaushik debuted with a bang with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor's Stree, which did a lifetime business of 126 crores nett at the domestic box office. The film was loved by critics and audiences, established a strong base for the horror universe, and was declared a super hit at the box office.
The second movie in the horror universe, Roohi, was directed by Hardik Mehta. The film had Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma, and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles and was released during the pandemic. That definitely reduced the film's box office potential, but the main problem was its mediocre content. Roohi did the lifetime bizz of 23 crore to get a flop verdict.
The third film in the horror universe marked Amar Kaushik's return, which raised a lot of expectations. However, the mediocre content once again ruined the horror universe. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon's creature comedy based on the werewolf idea is struggling to get an 'Average' or 'Semi-Hit' verdict at the box office. The film has crossed the 50 crore nett mark in India and will end its lifetime run somewhere near the first week box office numbers of Stree, i.e., 60 crore.
