Vijaykant was admitted to the hospital in Chennai for the treatment of pneumonia. He was kept on a ventilator, and then on Thursday morning, the party's headquarters announced that he tested positive for COVID-19. Soon after that, he passed away due to a prolonged illness.Before entering politics, Vijayakanth was a successful actor, producer, and director in Tamil cinema. His down-to-earth personality was loved by fans. He was the founder and president of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) political party and served as a member of the Legislative Assembly twice, representing the constituencies of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam, respectively.
