Twisters Storms the Pre-release Projections With an $80.5 Million Opening

Twisters stormed the North American box office with an $80.5 million opening weekend. This is far ahead of what the pre-release projections were saying.

The film was projected to score $55 million over the weekend, but Twisters came like a cyclone and destroyed all the predictions.

Riding high on the nostalgia of the original superhit from 1996, Twister, this rebooted sequel scored the third-biggest opening weekend of the year behind Pixar's blockbuster Inside Out 2 ($154 million) and Villeneuve's critically acclaimed Dune: Part Two ($82 million). Twisters also brought in $42.7 million from international markets.

Last year, Oppenheimer collected $82.5 million on the same weekend in a clash against Barbie. Twisters has literally matched the numbers of Oppenheimer, but Nolan's Oscar-winning flick had a great run, which is very unlikely here. Twisters has received an "A-" score from the audience.
