Umesh Shukla to direct Mohammed Rafi's biopic, confirms Rafi's son

Legendary Indian singer Mohammed Rafi's life is set to grace the silver screen soon. Rafi's son has announced a biopic on his father's life with Umesh Shukla (Movie Talkies).

Legendary Indian singer Mohammed Rafi's family and friends will be having his centennial celebrations next month. Born on December 24, 1924, Rafi would have completed 100 years on December 24, 2024. To make the occasion special, Rafi's son, Shahid Rafi, announced the biopic based on his father's glorious career and inspiring life.

Yes, you heard it right. A biopic on Mohammed Rafi is being planned and is almost confirmed. His son has himself confirmed the same. This biopic will be directed by Umesh Shukla, who is known for directing films like "OMG! Oh My God" (2012) and "102 Not Out" (2018).

 

Speaking about the same, Shahid Rafi shared, "An announcement will be made in December. I am making a biopic on Rafi sahab. We are planning... It is going to be the life story of Rafi sahab. Songs will also be part of the biopic. We have made a contract with Umesh Shukla, director of 'OMG - Oh My God!' and '102 Not Out.' It will be a full-fledged feature film."

As we know, Mohammed Rafi has been hailed as one of the greatest singers ever born in India. He was known for his versatility, as his voice range was unmatchable, right from qawwalis, bhajans, classical, peppy numbers, club songs, contemporary, to traditional tunes, and whatnot. Rafi has received six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. He was also honored with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India.
