How does it feel to see two major events in your family, your banner and you completing twenty-five years as a star-actor?
It gives me and everyone at home a great feeling of satisfaction and contentment to be blessed with all the things that we have achieved. But we don't believe in sitting back, we are men in action all the time, you know. We have now got all together to give Vijayta Films a new life, add our individual achievement to the common goal of reaching one common goal which is the only thing on our minds today. We have always believed in giving our best. We are trying all our ways and all out ways to better our own best.
How do you propose to bring about this big change you are planning and working for?
We too have decided to go the corporate way, but not the way the corporate are exactly working today. We have our own plans. Like we don't have to run after stars with bags full of money. We have four big stars at home, my father, myself, Bobby and my talented cousin Abhay. We don't have to spend money on stars which is the main plus point on the corporate now in the game. We don't have a major problem with money too. We have our own resources. We have banks who are willing to back us, equity and other ways of generating money to make our films.
How has your corporate, the deol's corporate like I would like to call it planned to be different from the corporate who are ruling the business of film entertainment today?
We are not going to just show our money power. We strongly believe that money is not the only thing that matters in the making of film. Money is very important, but money is not the only thing. That is what most of the corporate today believe, I feel. We believe that content matters, more than all the crores. We have worked out a definite plan to see that money is used in the right way, only to make quality film, films that are entirely to our liking and which we feel will appeal to the masses. We have been working on a number of scripts, hard-bound scripts as we call them. We will only go into production once our scripts is ready.
It seems that you have made a thorough study of the market and the way films are made these days?
I have to. There is no other way to carry on if you have to stay in the business and work in the healthy manner. This is the best time for making good films. The market has grown. The numbers of people watching films have grown which is the big advantage for the filmmakers like us. The multiplexes are playing their own part in bringing in an audience which were keeping away people from seeing films. There is money coming in from all kinds of sources but I feel this is a phase. It will last for a while or may be longer but ultimately it is going to be a case of the survival of the fittest. There will just be a couple of big companies which will rule the industry like they are in Hollywood. The others will have to find their own way or give up. The coming together of a few serious filmmakers will help in bringing the industry together and find that sense of unity which has always been the cause of many of our problems. One of the main problems I think which can be tackled on a war path if we are all united is the crippling disease of piracy which is slowly killing the industry.
What do you think about the way the corporate are functioning today?
From the little I know I think the corporate and all their men in charge must know the ways the films are actually made. They should know how and where and why their money is being spent. How can you run the business when you don't know the business you are dealing with your self?
What will be the major difference in your corporate plans?
First of all we are all in the business for years. We think about films 24x7. As I told we are going to check out and double check all matters concerning a film. The first condition like I have told you is the content. All the other things will
