Wicked Box Office:
Jon M. Chu's Wicked Part 1 was released last Friday all over, and the film met with positive reception from critics and audiences. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Green/Wicked Witch and Ariana Grande as Galinda, this musical adaptation of the Broadway blockbuster is looking to score well at the global ticket windows.
Wicked has registered the biggest opening weekend total for any Broadway adaptation at the North American box office. The opening weekend numbers for the film stand at a fantastic total of $114 million. The musical fantasy of Oz opened with $46.4 million on Friday and then added $36 million more on Saturday. It had a good hold on Sunday and brought in $31.4 million and took its opening weekend haul at exactly $114 million. This is the biggest weekend figure for any Broadway adaptation in Hollywood.

In international markets, Wicked hasn't done that well but has garnered a decent total. The story of the wicked witch is more popular in America than in other continents, so it was very much expected. This first edition in Oz's two-part film earned approx. $50.1 million overseas, taking its global tally to $164 million. Made on the budget of approx. $150 million, this seems like a good start for the film, but it will have to stay in the race for a couple of weeks to gain huge profits.
